Will I still be in control?
Yes, you are still fully in control of yourself when you are hypnotised. It’s sort of like a daydream. You are still conscious, but extremely relaxed. No one can take control of you and make you do silly things while you’re hypnotised unless of course, you want to.
Is Hypnosis mind control?
Nope. Despite how it is portrayed sometimes, hypnosis can’t make you the slave of the person hypnotising you. You are in control throughout the session and you are not under a “spell” or under the power of someone else. You will never do anything while you are hypnotised that you wouldn’t do in normal life. And trust me, I do not want any of my clients clucking like chickens!
What happens if I can’t come out of hypnosis?
It’s impossible for that to happen, because you won’t be unconscious. You will just be deeply relaxed, and you can come out of that state at any time that you wish. Sometimes at the end of a session it takes a few minutes to return to your normal awareness but that is only because it feels so good to be relaxed, sort of like not wanting to get up after a massage. You are always in control.
Can I hypnotise myself?
Sure you can! And it can even be said that all hypnosis is self-hypnosis; as you are in control of what you are doing. If you are doing the Relax Baby Hypnobirthing® program or using your HypnoKit and your Hypnotic Stress Reduction techniques, this is exactly what you will be doing. Some people prefer self-hypnosis because they can relax easier on their own, on their schedule, in an environment that is comfortable to them. That said, remember, when you are using self-hypnosis you aren’t getting the expertise and therapeutic help that you would be getting from a trained therapist. If you are using hypnosis to help you deal with anxiety, depression, or psychological issues then you should probably see a professional therapist instead of relying on self- hypnosis.
Is hypnosis real?
Even though hypnosis is becoming more mainstream and well known as a therapeutic modality, lots of people still feel a bit sceptical. But relax, baby (sorry, I couldn’t resist) it’s a legitimate therapeutic technique that has been used with proven success to treat medical and psychological disorders in millions of people. Hypnosis has been around a long time, it isn’t new or untested.
How many sessions do I need?
The brain needs repetition to change. But every brain is different. For lasting positive changes, I would recommend 6-8 sessions as a rule of thumb. Sometimes more and sometimes less. The truth is most people will feel better after just one session, but it does take repetition for the changes to stick. Remember, you are learning new skills!
What if I fall asleep?
Even when you sleep a part of your brain is always alert. You are always listening. The brain was designed to stay alert to protect us and our offspring. For example, if someone breaks into your home while you are sleeping at night, you will wake up as soon as you hear a noise. Or think of a new mother with a infant, she wakes up just as soon as she hears the baby crying. Our brains are wired for hearing even when we sleep, taking in information and recording it. In hypnosis, we use this, so even if you fall asleep during your session, your brain is still recording all of the information in your subconscious mind.
Can I use hypnosis instead of seeing a doctor?
No way, Jose. You should always seek the advice of a medical doctor before making a major change in your life.
Will I remember what you’ve said?
Possibly a little. But remember, hypnosis is designed to make your conscious mind forget the suggestions so that it doesn’t interfere with your subconscious.
What if I can’t be hypnotised?

Everyone enters a hypnotic state (Alpha) every day, several times per day. In alpha, your mind is slowed down a little bit, your focus narrows, your breathing slows, and you are relaxed.

This happens when you watch TV, read a book, play video games, and drive a car. It’s the same state you are in when you just wake up or right before falling asleep. You aren’t entirely conscious, but you aren’t entirely unconscious either.

When you are in this state, you’re much more suggestible than when you are fully awake (Beta). Sometimes people think they can’t be hypnotised, but that’s really just a bit of a misunderstanding as to what hypnosis is and what it is not.

Hypnosis is just a natural state which everyone moves in and out of throughout each day. It’s just like the state you are in when you’ve been driving a car for a long-distance, do you know that feeling? It isn’t that you are unconscious, but you do tune out. Your focus is concentrated on driving.
