The basic feature of any phobia is a conflict between the conscious and unconscious minds.
Phobias are deeply rooted in your subconscious primitive mind. Although the conscious intellectual mind easily recognises that a phobia is irrational it can’t help overcome the fear because the phobia is triggering subconscious primitive processes in the brain.
Fear can be useful for survival. If a dog is about to attack the fear response can be quite helpful as it triggers the release of stress hormones such as adrenaline which can help us to flee the situation.
However, the fear of all dogs under any and all situations is not particularly helpful.
You may be fearful in general and not able to identify your fear specifically. If that is the case, you might be experiencing generalized anxiety.
That is a little different than a phobia and fortunately, hypnotherapy can help (albeit a different approach). On the other hand, if you know exactly what makes you fearful (e.g. fear of flying, heights, closed places, bridges, insects, etc.) it could be a phobia.
Working at a deep subconscious level, Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can help to re-programme your thoughts. By dissociating your feelings of fear, anxiety and panic from the subject of your phobia and using the imaginative part of your mind, you can create a safe and secure response when you encounter the situation or subject of your phobia.
Sessions are safe, relaxing, and natural. We use guided visualisation and suggestions, not commands, that will gently ease you into a trance-like state where you remain conscious and in control but deeply relaxed and suggestible.
We will not dive into your past to uncover or analyse the cause of your phobias. You won’t need to discuss your phobia in detail or relive traumatic events.
We will take steady steps forward and help you to imagine new ways to feel, new solutions and alternative possibilities even before we begin hypnosis.
Imagine the ways that life could be different if you weren’t afraid.
