Happy weekend friends! Or if you are reading this on a weekday; something to look forward to then! For me, I tend to associate weekends with relaxation, though for years I worked weekends, still do! Weekends do seem relaxing in theory, though?
That being said, why is it so difficult to let ourselves relax, even though we know that we should or can?
In part it’s the culture we live in, the expectation that we must always be “doing” to prove our worth when in actual fact we are fine just “being”, but that’s another blog post for another day!) But it’s not just that; it’s the way our brains are designed and wired for survival.
We are designed to be survival machines and when our brains go into default mode, they always go negative – to the worst-case scenario.
When we go negative like this we think paranoid or anxious thoughts, and when this happens we get stressed out – even on the weekends when we know we shouldn’t. Then we think about that and get more stressed…when does it end??
Well, I’ve got good news. If we can catch it in the early subtle stages, just by becoming more aware of our thoughts, we can let them go and kick start the relaxation response rather than the survival instinct.
Not only does the relaxation response feel better, but when we are in a relaxed state we can be creative, feel good, heal physically, mentally, & spiritually.
When we are relaxed and chilled out bright ideas come to us, & we can connect to higher energies and reach our potentials.
So maybe we shouldn’t feel guilty for grabbing a little time to ourselves on the weekends(or whenever!). If you start feeling guilty about watching that episode of Pam & Tommy (I won’t judge) or taking that nap, remember it’s good for you!
If you have 10 minutes, try one of my little hypnotic meditations, they will ease you into a lovely relaxed state which you can take with you the rest of the day 😊. It’s 100 percent free and it only takes 10 minutes (Ok maybe 11 but pretty close). Give it a go and sign up for monthly meditations sent directly to your inbox!
