Hypnosis is a natural state
The hypnotic state is totally normal and we go in and out of it, all day every day.
It happens when you watch a movie, read a book, play a video game, or drive a car. It’s the same state you wake up in (who turned the alarm off – spoiler alert, you did!) or right before falling asleep.
Daydreaming is a type of hypnotic trance
Think about a time where you were driving for hours, or driving home from work, you just sort of spaced out. You weren’t unconscious exactly, but you totally zoned out; your subconscious mind ran the show and drove the car.
When you are in a hypnotic state, your mind quiets, your focus narrows, your breathing slows, and you feel incredibly calm. It works, and it works fast because it counters the effect of the stress response with the relaxation response, and you can just chill out.
Hypnosis feels amazing
When used therapeutically, hypnotherapy does more than just make you feel good; when you are in a hypnotic state, you are far more suggestible than when you are fully awake.
And we will use this to our advantage: hypnosis is really a mind hack where we can bypass the conscious mind entirely so that we speak directly to the subconscious. It’s important that we have a conversation with the subconscious, because the quality of your thoughts determines your state of mind, and your state of mind determines your physical and mental well-being.
So, if you want to make changes and feel more relaxed, positive, and confident, we’ve got to start feeding the subconscious with positive sensory input.

Once we begin to rewire how we think about things through conscious positive thoughts, and unconscious positive beliefs, we can begin making small achievable changes, and as the firing and the wiring of our brain changes, we become more peaceful, relaxed, and resilient. Hi Friends! I get a bunch of questions about hypnosis and hypnotherapy. I think it’s shrouded in a bit of mystery, and can sometimes seem a little mysterious or inaccessible, which it absolutely isn’t! The hypnotic state is completely natural and normal, and when used therapeutically can be an amazing treatment modality as well as a way to find balance in this busy world.
Hypnosis, either self-hypnosis or in a therapeutic setting is a gentle process of deep relaxation, where you can release stress, attune to deep inner peace, find clarity, balance, healing, and recharge.
It’s an instant reset where you can feel renewed, centred, and highly capable of navigating your day, your schedule, and your life with ease, flow, and grace.
I think a good starting point when trying to understand hypnosis would be thinking of it as a self-care practice, because when you think about it, it is the ultimate in self-care because it affects the health of our mind. When the mind is feeling good, everything else can fall into place.
Very often, REST isn’t the first thing to come to mind when we think about our overall health. Sure, we think about sleep, and we know to be healthy we need good quality sleep and plenty of it, but what about rest?
I know what it’s like when the momentum of the go-mode has become the default, you feel like if you take the time to slow down it can all fall apart!
But what if, the deeper you rest, the more inspired, energised, and proficient you become? Maybe we just need to press the pause button so that everything can fall into place?
Hypnosis is simply an amazing tool we can use to simply rest and recharge.

Self-hypnosis & meditation aren't the same, but they do share some very profound similarities in their abilities to reduce stress, improve health, and slow the effects of aging. Just think of someone you know who has been through trauma or a stressful period of their life. Have you noticed how the experience aged them? Meditation & self-hypnosis slow the aging process because they can reduce stress & even reverse the process.
So how does it work? In part, it reduces cortisol, one of the stress hormones released during the stress response. Cortisol can have many negative effects including weight gain and even a decrease in skin elasticity.
When stress triggers the fight or flight response, cortisol is released to protect us from predators. It's a survival mechanism that works by getting into our skin so if we are attacked by a predator, we won't be so tasty. Meditation & self-hypnosis reduce cortisol and flood you with bliss chemicals that give you a youthful glow.
Another anti-aging benefit of self-hypnosis & hypnotherapy is better sleep. The phrase "sleep on it" refers to the very real way your body rids itself of stress while you sleep at night. Practicing meditation or self-hypnosis during the day, allows your body to use that time for stress relief so that at night you can use sleep time just for sleep.
